Fashion Illustration with Marker Rendering for Beginners

I totally get it.

While I'm completely confident in sketching fashion illustrations using brush tip markers now, that wasn't always the case. When I first started, I felt like a fish out of water.

The elongated fashion proportions were foreign to me and using markers was a completely new experience. I was terrified of drawing faces. My markers kept streaking. I struggled to blend colors and achieve the effects that make illustrations look realistic.

Despite those roadblocks, I kept coming back to my creative practice and after years of trial and error, I've figured out how to master a variety of marker rendering techniques and create beautiful fashion illustrations that I'm truly proud of.

Those illustrations have since helped me land fashion design jobs, win design contests, score invites to New York Fashion Week, launch my art business, collaborate with amazing brands, explore my creativity and celebrate my love of fashion!

In this course, I'm sharing my entire fashion illustration process with you from start to finish!

Joanna Baker

Hi there! My name is Joanna

I’m a professional artist living in New York City with my husband and our cat, Junebug. I have a passion for illustrating and creating beautiful things, and I love encouraging others to pursue their own unique creativity.

Since leaving my corporate fashion design job in 2015, I've turned my illustration hobby into a multi-faceted creative business - running my illustration shop, creating commissioned artwork, licensing my illustrations and now teaching others how to create their own beautiful work too.

My journey into teaching began with Instagram, posting work-in-progress videos and sharing mini drawing tutorials on YouTube. After getting lots of requests for more in-depth instruction specifically geared towards beginners, my first online illustration course was born.

I'm eager to share all of my best marker illustration secrets with you so that you can skip past the wasted time & frustration and begin sketching what you love!

This course is composed of step-by-step mini lessons leading up to the creation of three complete fashion illustrations.

If you're thinking "I don't have much experience, is this course for me?" or "I've tried before and I just can't draw."

What Students Are Saying...

"Joanna is an excellent teacher and takes the time to walk you through the details that many other classes tend to skip over. I love how the class is structured into chapters and you can jump around as you need to.

If you're a beginner, going from start to finish is ideal. If you're more advanced, it's nice to be able to skip around and focus on the areas you need help with. Joanna's class is exceptionally well done and I would recommend it to anyone looking to improve their drawing and marker skills."

Frequently Asked Questions:

When does the course start and finish?

You can start the course as soon as you purchase! It's a completely self-paced online course - you decide when you start and when you finish. While the total amount of video content is just over 5 1/2 hours, I suggest pacing yourself and completing the class over a few weeks so you can spend enough time mastering each lesson. You should be able to completely finish the course within a month's time.

How long do I have access to the course?

You'll have access for the lifetime of the course, for as long as I continue to run Fashion Illustration with Marker Rendering for Beginners, and guaranteed access for AT LEAST one year after you enroll! All the downloadable worksheets and reference guides are yours to keep so you can refer back to them long after you've finished the course.

What if I am unhappy with the course?

I'd never want you to be unhappy! If you've finished the course and found that you haven't learned anything new, e-mail me within the first 14 days of purchase and I will give you a full refund.

Will I gain access to all the lessons at once?

Yes! As soon as you purchase the class, you'll have instant access to all of the course content including videos and bonus downloads.

Does this course cover menswear or children's wear?

This course focuses primarily on women's fashion illustration. Many of the templates and reference sheets were created with women's wear in mind, but all of the marker rendering techniques are universal and can be applied to many genres of illustration including menswear, children's wear, and even home decor.

How often do you update the course?

The course will be updated from time to time, when I have a fun new lesson I'd like to share that I think will best help those at the beginner level.

Do I get access to the course updates?

Yes! Every time I make an update to the course, you'll gain access to the new course content as soon as the update launches at no additional cost.

Do I need Copic Markers to make the most of the lessons?

Nope! You don't need to use Copics specifically but you will want to use markers that have a brush tip. There are a variety of brands available that feature a brush tip on one end of the marker (it looks like a little paint brush).

What Students Are Saying...

"I love Joanna's class and her style of teaching. I'm a self-taught illustrator, and found this to be a perfect fit even if you're already an intermediate level. I'd say it's perfect for beginners and intermediates...

Joanna has a natural, easy to follow teaching style that's a pleasure both to watch and listen to. I was able to focus on the areas that I wanted to work on, and use the class as a refresher to remind me of things too. If you want to treat yourself to something special, or have a little me time to develop your illustration skills, then this class is a great way to go!"
